Are Keds Vegan? Yes, many are.
Are Keds vegan?
The answer is mostly yes. Here is a letter I received from someone at Keds.
Thank you for your inquiry.
Our current styles listed on our website will state leather if the shoe is manufactured with leather. We use plant based (rubber) or polymer (oil) based glues and rubber or ESO soles.
However, shoes contain dyes and chemicals, i.e. cement adhesives, rubber, latex etc. that may possibly consist of animal products. We are not able to guarantee that the glue or materials used in our shoes do not contain any animal products.
Keds appreciates your interest in our brand.
Kind Regards,
Interesting.
Well Keds are a cool classic brand, and maybe you want some.
When checking out the website, I found the majority of keds are not made with leather.
Here are some cool vegan styles from keds:
The classic keds style ($35) I had when I was younger. I used to draw all over them with sharpies. These are very similiar to vans’ classic style. I wonder who came first.
Here is the same shoe in a beautiful light blue wash:
I believe this is the first and ultimate keds shoe. Starting off their company in 1916.
Champion canvas original, $ 35.
Shoes with history. Very cool.
Check out their website for many more styles and colors. I will add keds to my article “Where To Buy Cool Vegan Shoes Online” at the top of the site, since they do have a wide variety of vegan styles.
I just stumbled across your site today, I already love it. Such a great source of information. I recently became a vegan (for health reasons) but have been educating myself about the other side of the coin, that being the treatment of animals and, as such, I have been looking for cruelty free clothing and footwear choices. It’s great to know that a resource like this is out there.
Keep up the great work!
Jen
Thank you so much for your comment. I am so glad you found the site and found the info helpful. I wish this blog came up higher in the google search rankings so people could learn this info, but you found it so that’s great!! Your comment is inspiring me to do some more posts! any specific things you’d like to see more of or know more about?
I just reached out to Keds and was told none of their shoes are vegan friendly…. :(
