Are Keds Vegan? Yes, many are.

Are Keds vegan?

The answer is mostly yes. Here is a letter I received from someone at Keds.

Thank you for your inquiry.

Our current styles listed on our website will state leather if the shoe is manufactured with leather. We use plant based (rubber) or polymer (oil) based glues and rubber or ESO soles.

However, shoes contain dyes and chemicals, i.e. cement adhesives, rubber, latex etc. that may possibly consist of animal products. We are not able to guarantee that the glue or materials used in our shoes do not contain any animal products.

Keds appreciates your interest in our brand.

Kind Regards,

Interesting.

Well Keds are a cool classic brand, and maybe you want some.

When checking out the website, I found the majority of keds are not made with leather.

Here are some cool vegan styles from keds:

Champion Gingham
Champion Leopard Laceless
Champion Canvas Slip On

The classic keds style ($35) I had when I was younger. I used to draw all over them with sharpies. These are very similiar to vans’ classic style. I wonder who came first.

Here is the same shoe in a beautiful light blue wash:

Not Too Shabby Slip On

Not Too Shabby Slip On, $50

I believe this is the first and ultimate keds shoe. Starting off their company in 1916.

Champion Canvas Originals

Champion canvas original, $ 35.

Shoes with history. Very cool.

Check out their website for many more styles and colors. I will add keds to my article “Where To Buy Cool Vegan Shoes Online” at the top of the site, since they do have a wide variety of vegan styles.

Carmen Miranda Style Vegan Floral Heels

Why do I even know who Carmen Miranda is?

Honestly, I didn’t until I wikipediaed her, but I always knew her name and what she looks like.

She was a brazilian samba singer and then film star in the forties and fifties known for her fruit hat.

I think when I was very young, there must have been some craze for dressing up like Carmen Miranda at eighties costume parties or something.

Anyway, the image lingers on in the mind.

I think I must get my love of banana earrings from her.

And I think she’s the reason why I like the following shoes so much.

I saw these shoes on a great vegan shoe blog Vegan Shoe Addict today, and wanted to share them here, cause I liked them so much.

Poetic Licence Women’s Sweet Shirley Temple Wedge Sandal

Vegan flower wedge heels

I like them in mauve and in white.

What do you think?
