A New Girl on the Block in the World of Vegan Online Stores: VSHOEN

Regan Forrester inside her new "vegan shoe store" Vshoen on Broughton Street downtown.

I wanted to tell you about a new vegan boutique on the interwebs that I will be adding to my Oft-mentioned article “Where to Find Cool Vegan Shoes Online”–recently updated!

It is a Canadian company called Vshoen.

Regan, the founder, commented on my blog and alerted me to her new venture.

It is excellent!

One thing I appreciate about their online store is it has very large images of the shoes for sale. I love a nice large image.

I want this Olsen Haus Galaxy shoe which is on sale at their store. Dang! unfortunately they are out of my size.

Galaxy

I also love their swiss alpine hiking boot inspired shoes from Cri de Coeur. Dang! Again not available in my size. I think I’m a 10 1/2??

Trail

Does your mind go there?

Anyway!!

I find it inspiring when someone starts a vegan store. Making a difference!!

Check out their blog for a very informative post about “why leather is not a fabric“–containing a shocking photo of a cow being stripped of its hide next to a luxury car. Wow. A shocking image that you might want to check out.

Here’s a crazy fact I learned from this post. “Did you know the transportation sector comes second to the leather industry with respect to the environmental damage caused?”

That’s crazy! Get rid of it.

Are you on twitter? I’m not really. I have an account but I’ve tweeted once. Though I’ve been thinking maybe I should start using it more recently. Anyway, Vshoen looks like they have a great twitter account.

@vshoenboutique.

They alerted me to some NYC animals that need to be adopted.

Brava VSHOEN, and check out their store if you want to buy some designer vegan shoes.

A New Line of Designer Vegan or (Cruelty Free Rather) Handbags from Cornelia Guest

I recently read on the peta blog about a new line of “cruelty free” handbags from Cornelia Guest, daughter of fashion icon C.Z Guest.

Cornelia Guest. I love the name Cornelia.

With mother, the famed C.Z Guest.

Cornelia seems to have been an animal lover her whole life, with nine dogs, a donkey and a tortoise, a line of vegan cookies and now a beautiful new line of handbags. I am a fan.

I read an interview with her in which the interviewer asks “what would you like to achieve before you die?”

she responds:

“To let the world know that there is an alternative, and animals suffer horrifically, and there is no need for it.”

Inspiring.

Here is a quote about her design process I liked. She says:

“Every day I learn about resourcing fabrics,” she says. “It’s like being in a candy store. I sit on the floor of these warehouses and sift through different sorts of corks, PVCs and faux leathers in every possible texture. So much of it is recycled.

“I love using woods, organic cotton, so many things available to us. I don’t know where it could go and it morphs every day. Right now I am using sustainable PVC that is also recyclable. The faux leathers now are incredible quality. You can’t tell the difference and it’s just as – and even more beautiful than – any leathers I have seen.
This is quite admirable. I think this line will do well. I really like her bags.
I totally love the woven satchels, and the rest are very nice too. You can see them all and purchase them here.
