Super Cool Vegan Shoes from Marais USA– Doesn’t Get Much More Cool Than This

For my first post back in the blogosphere, I would like to introduce you to some really cool vegan shoes. And I do mean cool. This company is probably the epitome of Brooklyn hipster chic.

Marais USA has very good styles, and a lot of them happen to be vegan. This company was founded by two young girls of just about my age. Very inspiring.

They have recently launched their summer collection of shoes and there are some great non leather options– yay.

Here are my favorites:

My first pick are these leopard Dolce Vita-esque slingbacks.

These remind me of something an Italian woman on the back of a motorino in Roma would wear.

Agree?

Another favorite style of mine is their Loafer Heel:

I feel this is really the perfect interview shoe. Especially in Black.

It doesn’t get much hipper than this!!

Lastly, I have a pair of Marais USA’s brown Chelsea Boots, and they are my favorite pair of shoes. I wore them all winter long, and they are looking very scuffed and part of the heels have worn down. These are really good shoes, and I get lots of compliments on them. I wish I had a pair in black as well.

Overall, Marais is a great company, but I’ve always been a little disappointed that while style and affordability are part of their mission, making cruelty free shoes is not. Some of their shoes are vegan, but some of the best and coolest ones are not. Why not just make it a priority to make them all non leather? I don’t understand.

However, I admire the founders of this company, and they make great looking shoes. Since Marais has a pretty big selection of shoes, and many of them are vegan, I will be adding them to my article Where To Find Cool Vegan Shoes at the top of the website.

So…

What do you think of these shoes? Are you into them? Please, let me know…I love to hear your comments!

Update:

Here is a complete list of the vegan shoes from Marais USA confirmed by Marais themselves.

A Revitalizing Comment

Tonight I received the most amazing comment from someone in South Korea.

Dear Victoria,

Hello, my name is Sea-Hyung Oh.
I am a college student studying in Korea.
I am researching about cruelty free / eco-friendly textile, and vegan fashion items, overall.
Which also happens to be my personal interest as well. (I have just recently become a vegan 3 months ago)
My friends and I are studying about vegan fashion in America
and hope to bring some of the idea back to Korea, so that there is an increased
awareness of such subject on a national level.

We have read about you on your website and were highly interested in your works and thoughts.
We are planning on visiting United States this summer in order to
fully immerse ourselves in it and to further enlighten ourselves.
Would it be possible for us to visit you for an interview and possibly
discuss a bit more about the subject?
Our plan is to visit during the months of July and August.

Sincerely,

Sea Oh

I couldn’t believe it when I received this awesome comment. Someone all the way in South Korea has found my blog, and is thinking about these same issues. All I can say is the times they are a changin, and with determined students like these, I do believe that things are going to get done in our lifetime, and that hopefully sooner than we think, the leather industry will be gone with the wind.

This wonderful comment has inspired me to keep blogging again. I have been going through some rough times over here, and sadly have not remained at the forefront of the battle field, leading the way to the coolest vegan shoe options on the market.

Spring is coming, at least in NY, and I am in dire need of some appropriate footwear. Last year I was making do with one pair of old flip flops– not good at all! One must be dressed for the occasion.

Get ready for some good posts coming up, and thank you thank you thank you Sea Oh, for your kind comment.
